I work at a office and my computer has Windows Vista running on it. I have a home router that has an USB external hard drive attached to it. It has all my movies on it. I call it "my server" to everyone. I would like to VPN into my server to watch my movies at lunch. I set up the VPN connection through Vista and it connects. It does not see my shared files. I have done the same thing on my wifes laptop, which has Windows 7. It works fine every time. The VPN connects and I hit the windows button and I type " \\server" ( the shared folder with all my movies, ect. in it ) in the search bar. The \\server folder pops up above the search bar and I click it. I enter my server and can watch movies on the laptop.
I can't seem to be able to do this on my Vista computer at work or any Vista computer. I tried on a friend computer that has Vista. Didn't work. I can do it on my coworkers computer( or any computer ) that is running Windows 7. But she is usually at her desk during lunch. Also its a pain in the butt to turn the movie off when she gets back from lunch. I would like to be able to watch movies on my computer. I got a 1080p 32" screen as a monitor so i can split the screen, one for movies the other for work. My boss says its fine. As long as i get my work done. He watches movies at work too. I set his router and external hard drive up the same as mine at home(exact same router and external hard drive). So I do know it does work for Windows 7, and its nothing to do with our network or firewalls. All the computers have the same firewall software.

What am i doing wrong? Any help would be nice?

Vista has different setups for shared files. Have you checked on this? I looked on vpnexpress.net and there shouold nt be any problems on the vpn itself. You might also need to allow it through the firewall.
