Sup guys,

I'm advising a customer on builds right now. The intended recipient is a 14yo who does light gaming ( main game played is league of legends) who will probably not touch any AAA, blockbuster titles.

The heaviest workload this system will see is probably windows movie maker. No photoshop, no heavy video transcoding/conversion.

I was anticipating the release of Kaveri, but am disappointment that I do not see it has DDR4 controllers built-in. The goal of this build is to create a budget system that will max out League with 60fps @ 1920x1080. I thought an APU would be perfect for the job, but I don't wanna build something with new tech on the horizon. Should I wait?

Solution
DDR4 is still a ways off and will be adopted in the enterprise level first with server class processors, and expect when DDR4 comes out to be quite expensive as well.

One thing on the tech industry is that there's ALWAYS something new on the horizon. My advice would be just set to yourself a budget and a deadline a just buy whatever is the best available thing for you at that time.

More to the point, while an APU can manage LoL (not quite sure if max it out), depending on budget it's possible that it could not be the best choice. Again, the keyword here is budget.
