I've had a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse since high school but some water spilled on the keyboard and now 5-7 keys are dead, but I was wanting to upgrade to a mechanical keyboard anyway

I've heard the Razer Black widow ultimate is the best keyboard hands down but it's pretty pricey, however I do like razer products and I want a reliable keyboard

should I go for that keyboard or can I get a comparable one for closer to $50?

it will go with the deathadder or naga lol edition, not sure yet heard good and bad about both mice

I know the Storm line has different types of key switches so you may find one in a switch that may suit your need. However, mechanical keyboards by nature are more noisy than a typical keyboard simply due to their construction. They also sell some small rubber rings (I can't remember the technical name of them off the top of my head) that can be placed between the key and switch to help dampen the sound.

One thing I've seen about Rosewills that steered me clear of them is that the cables is detachable from your keyboard and connects via micro USB. They may have updated that, but I remember seeing a lot of reviews where the connection would come out frequently. I prefer the cable to be permanently attached to the keyboard. Another...

Due to how they are built a mechanical keyboard is more expensive than a traditional keyboard. If you want mechanical you'll be paying at least $80 up for one. If you simply want a gaming keyboard, you can easily find those in the $50 range. There is nothing wrong with the black Widow line, but if you want to save a few bucks skip the ultimate and go with just the regular black widow. You won't get backlit keys but other than that they are essentially the same.

ty for the reply, I actually prefer no backlit keys lol, I had the lights enabled on my deathadder but I had to turn them off because they're too hyper bright when I try to go to sleep

if the non-ultimate is basically the same then maybe I'll just go with that one, $80 or so isn't bad, does anyone have a coupon or know of any deals?

I'm not sure, you'd have to look around. If you can't find the Black Widow at a reasonable cost you may want to look at a CM Storm keyboard as they might meet your needs also. It depends on the type of switches you want, whether you want a ten key or not, extra function keys, etc. If you have a place nearby that sells mechanical keyboards take a look at some and see what type of switches you'd like. Everyone has their preference but blue seems to be one that many people really like.

I like the blackwidow because it would match my mouse and because a friend has one so we could help set up macros together, but there aren't any deals on them and i don't really want to pay more than $90 for a keyboard

the storm and 6gv2 look promising, do either offer silent keystrokes?

rosewills look good just plain features wise in comparison

Another thing you may want to look at is whether the keyboards have built in USB and microphone jacks. I know the Black Widows do and it's a very convenient feature if your tower isn't that close.

CM storm Quickfire Rapid and Stealth are cheap, high quailty keyboards, with no frills.
The Rosewill do tend to fail at the micro usb connection.
The technical term for the dampeners are O-rings.
Use the mechanical keyswitch guide- http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide
Use Geekhack to get a feel for what range you want (they do tend to recomment higer price, but higher quality)
Razers have a tendency to not be the best quality (the also use cherry mx blues which equals loud)
You dont have to look at silent keystoke keyboards, the only one that is different is one of the logitech has O-rings pre installed
CM storm Trigger offers macro keys, but watch the software for any macro keyboards
My main reason to get a mech keyboard was how much longer they last, and so i wouldn't get a razer because of their somewhat lack of quality control, which steered me clear of the rosewill 9000 series as well. The OEM (who actually makes the keyboards matter, as some are much better than others)
You dont need a gaming keyboard, unless you specifically want macros. There are probably programs which let you assign macros on non macro keyboards (I'd use the numpad for that) I find macro keys pretty useless, about all i do is some that type out "the" and "and" for my laziness (and disable capslock, way more annoying than a windows key)
Figure out what you really want from a keyboard, then go from there. (I have the CM storm Trigger because it's backlit, made by Costar, has a wristrest, and its advanced programming of keys (web apps, media keys, ect.) and the rubber bottom coated risers)

thank you all for the replies, I can't find the black widow ultimate for under $140 so I think I'll go with a CM Storm variant or the 6GV2, does anyone have deals/coupons I can take advantage of? I don't think the extra 5 buttons are worth the extra $50-60, so I'm thinking between the cm storm rapid or the cm storm with 3 led's
