Hello all, this is my first post here, and im searching for help.

I have a core 2 duo @2.0ghz 1.0ghz, and what i wanna know is, what is the 1.0ghz, is it the second core? Coz i was looking for some OC on my cpu and unfortunaly my mobo cant do it i guess, i have a asus p5vd2-vm, but i have a option "Use top performance" wich i enabled, and now i have on description core 2 duo @2.0ghz 2.0ghz. I also changed another option, something like " frequency.." cant remember the rest, i can only change that from 200 to 266 if im not mistaken. I first changed to 205 and got @2.0ghz 2.05ghz, then to 210 i got @2.0ghz 2.10ghz, i went only till 215, but i changed back coz i didnt know if that could be bad or not.

Ok so after you guys read this what can you tell me? Am I killing the pc? :D

Btw sry for my english, its not the best.

Yhe i never touch anything if i dont know about it.

I would like to do 2 more questions, at bios in Frequency/Voltage Control i have this options:

Async cpu/PCIE clock Async mode ---> this is the one i have enable
Sync mode

CPU clock Min. 200 Max. 232 ---> I have 200, but if i change to 205 i get 2.0ghz 2.05ghz

Spread spectrum +/- 0.2% up to 1.0% ---> I have the 0.2%

So is there anything i can change here to get a little bit more performance?

My second question is about my RAM, i have 3gb, one slot 2gb PC2-6400 (400mhz) and on the other slot i have 1gb PC2-4300 (266mhz), so i was wondering if this 1gb by any case could be slowing things down, yes or no? Should i stick with 3gb or go only 2gb, i want to change this 1gb for a 2gb, but i cant right now.

Ty for the help

There are 2 basic ways to increase clock speed of your processor. 1) increase clock multiplier. 2) increase the Front Side Buss. If you don't have a cpu with an unlocked clock multiplier, you are left with only the FSB to increase. But increasing that also increases everything that runs off the base clock. So before beginning any O/C'ing, you should always decrease the speeds of the other things. It is too involved to go into here. So check out some "how tos" online. Example: http://hexus.net/tech/tech-explained/cpu/9808-intel-core-2-duo-basic-overclocking-guide-beginners/

If you can help it, never mix ram of different speeds, sizes, brands, voltage, and timings. The memory in your system will run at the speed of the slowest ram; 266MHZ (X 2 in dual channel mode). But, it will only use double channel mode for the odd 1GB, the rest will run at single channel mode. And by mixing ram you take the chance of memory errors crashing the system. Always buy dual channel memory in MATCHED pairs.
