USB dropping constantly

So here's my story. Recently started having this issue where my USB devices (mouse, keyboard, headset, and anything else connected via USB) would suddenly stop working. Even more recently they would become intermittent. My mouse and keyboard are all led back-lit so you could literally see the lights flashing at random intervals on my keyboard and mouse indicating that they were losing power somehow. So do you know what I did? I surmised that it must be failing USB controllers on my motherboard...I did quite a bit of research to reach this conclusion. So I got on newegg and ordered myself a new motherboard. Get everything set up...seems to be going fine. Load up a game and suddenly...lights are flashing again and my USB devices are dropping like crazy. I figured it must be related to my graphics card somehow as it only seems to happen while i'm playing games. I stopped playing games for the day and worked on some stuff in photoshop and cinema 4D...USB devices cut out again on me.
So I can safely assume it's not my motherboard as it is brand new.
Some other things to consider:
I got a new power supply and hard drive for christmas. It's a corsair RM750 and the hard drive is a WD 1TB.
The new motherboard I got is a MSI Z77A-GD45 a fair step up from my Z68A-GD55 I got more than 2 years ago.
RAM: I have 16GB(Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB sticks)\
CPU: intel i5-2400 3.1GHz
windows 7 Pro - 64Bit
Hard drive is OCZ agility 3 128GB
Anyone have any ideas?

My first thought was PSU but then I saw you got a new one for christmas. I know that doesn't rule it out but let's hope not. Double check your USB motherboard connections. Try switching some of your devices to the front of your case, split them up between the to usb headers and then try to recreate the issue.

I've got mouse and keyboard plugged into the front USB header at the moment...so far no issues. My other thought is maybe something is shorting it. I have a CM Storm quickfire pro keyboard. Stupidest design I've ever seen for USB, but it has a separate USB cable that plugs into the keyboard at one end and the PC at the other. But here's the kicker...the area it gives you to plug in the cable underneath the keyboard is kind of small and walled in. So no matter what you have to leave the cable bending to connect it. So no matter what you do your cable will wear out over time...over a very SHORT time..could that be an issue? Or am I grasping at straws.

Does the Quickfire Pro have a PS/2 connection you could use instead? Though I just don't see that cabling really causing all that but of course have heard of weirder things. Play like that awhile then put just the mouse in the back. Then switch them around so mouse is in front keyboard in back ect...

No it doesn't i'm sure i could find some kind of usb to PS/2 adapter, but I don't know to what end that would lead me. I just uninstalled the root hub driver entirely and let it reinstall itself. it SEEMS to be fine for now. I did notice that it seemed to be the driver itself that was dropping as windows kept having to reinstall the drivers for the devices themselves as well as the usb root hub drivers among other things.

So I've been testing some things with my system the past day or two...seeing what I can come up with. Seems like no matter what I do it has the same issue. My finger is kind of pointing to my power supply, but here's my thinking. If - IF- it is power supply shouldn't it give me this issue no matter what interface the computer is in. For instance, when I go to the BIOS and use my mouse and keyboard(I have an MSI board with a click bios) it should give me the same issue, no? Logically speaking if not enough power is being supplied to the USB bus then it should not function no matter where you are.

Additionally it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue but more of a windows issue. Windows seems to be dropping a very specific set of drivers. Unplugging and plugging the devices into different ports will [sometimes] fix the issue; if not temporarily. And if the USB bus is truly not being supplied with enough power to sustain itself, then shouldn't ALL USB ports stop functioning at the same time if there's some sort of power drooping happening? Normally when the devices cut out it's SPECIFICALLY the mouse and keyboard. My headset still functions and I can hear/talk to people on skype... And it doesn't seem like the USB's don't function at all. In one test I did I left the device manager open and watched as windows simply dropped drivers and I had to unplug...wait for a minute...and then plug them back in so windows would detect the devices/drivers again. Quite annoying.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hey Bobiq.

I have the same problem as you describe. I have MSI Z77A-GD55 and the problem started a few days ago, USB Dropps for KB and mouse. Otherwise it works fine, applikations still running ex. Skype and ppl hear me from usb headset and i can talk, but KB and mouse is gone.
I tryed all the thing you tryed, and as a final solution i reinstalled OS (win7 64-bit) and still have the problem:??:

I will keep trying to figure out the problem when i get back from work, and if i find a solution i will get back.
