So i had to wipe my hard drive after my profile broke and kept loading me into a temp profile. after 3 days i got to pissed off with it and wiped my hard drive.
i used my computers backup software to backup the needed programs and games to external 2tb hard drive and then wipe my hard drive clean. when i recovered my file from the external to my main hard drive everything was fine. i then looked at my updates page in control panel and it said i had 800mb of updates, i also found that even though i had ticked the box to leave nothing when i wiped my hard drive it left a windows.old folder and i now seem to have less hard drive space than i had before the wipe along with games and programs randomly not working and now im just lost.

i will say this now that if i could i would wipe my hard drive clean again and redownload everything again but its would takes weeks upon weeks to download everything i needed on a 1mb download internet speed.
i have honestly no idea what to do now.

If you have a windows.old folder, you didn't format it.

Boot off the disc, don't put the disc into the drive while in windows. You need to hit the 'Custom (advanced)' option.

Also, several hundred MiB of updates is normal if you're reinstalling from scratch. Shouldn't take weeks though; about 2-3 hours.

The Windows.old folder is because you installed a new OS over top of the old one without formatting the drive first. If you are sure you do not need anything from your old OS, just delete the windows.old folder and that should free up some hard drive space.

Windows will install certain updates during the installation procedure. It is not odd that you have 800MB of updates.

You are going to need to be more specific than "Games and Programs randomly not working". And a little more info about the system would be helpful also. I am assuming it is Windows 7 you are working with?

The one thing I would try downloading is updated drivers for your system. Even with a slow internet connection you will be able to download the newest drivers.
