Is Windows 8/8.1 Better than Windows 7?

I made myself a new rig about maybe a month ago now, and with it I decided to get Windows 7 because I heard that most people hate 8 and 8.1, and it doesn't really effect game performance. However, I have been having a few performance annoyances with Battlefield 4, mostly in the way that I just watched someone play the game on ultra settings while recording (with Shadowplay so it almost doesn't count) and pretty much never dipping below 60, hitting maybe 62 FPS in the most intense situations, with the same GPU as me (GTX 770). Is this just due to Windows 7 being less optimized for BF4 as Windows 8 or what, because I have seen a lot of people saying just that, and almost as many saying that Windows 8 did not help them at all. I was just wondering because while it doesn't effect me that much right now, in the next year or so I was going to either get a good SSD with Windows 8, or upgrade something like my motherboard so it would supports SLI or something. Thanks!

Windows 8 should give slightly better performance - emphasis on slightly.

Unless you can get a cheap upgrade deal it's not worthwhile upgrading.

The FPS difference could be down to monitor resolution. If they are playing at a lower resolution the GPU has less work to do.

Okay thank you. Nope, same graphics settings exactly: Ultra quality, 100% resolution scale, 1920x1080p, etc. I did just manage to maybe fix something with my BF4 game performance today, but I haven't had a chance to check since most servers today have been terrible for whatever reason DICE said.

AMD FX-6350 OC to 4.4 GHz, cores unparked. Have no questions in performance with other games, even other CPU intensive ones don't burden me at all, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. Sure, in some cases it may limit me a few frames per second. but its a fine CPU.

A friend of mine is a keen gamer and uses Windows 7. He tried Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 (i think) and now is using again 7 .
