hey everyone, i have run into a bit of a stumble up. this is my second build, using an amd a8 6600k with a gigabyte f2a88xm-d3h running windows 8.1. the bios is version F1, and i want to update to version f5. i went ahead with using q flash, as it seemed to be most reliable and safe. everything went smooth, i downloaded the bios from gigabytes website, extracted to a usb drive formatted to fat32 and used it in a usb2.0 port on the rig. q flash booted up and recognized my flash drive and the files in it, but as soon as i choose the bios i get an error message telling me my flash utility is outdated. i searched for an updated utility, but found nothing and now i am stuck. i know i can use @bios, but i hear it is dangerous, and this build is for a family member. if i do have to use @bios i will, but is there a fix for this 'outdated utility' any input or experience is appreciated.

thank you

It seems you need to update to F4 first using the EFI Flash tool included in the BIOS .zip file. Then for a future BIOS upgrade to F5, you can use either the Q-Flash or the EFI Flash tool.

I've never used the EFI Flash Tool but found this .pdf file on Google:

Calvin, thanks for your reply. I will try to upgrade to f4 first. Then from there i can try and upgrade to f5? I also saw i can use @bios. Any input on using that instead?

I ended up making a bootable flashdrive just like those steps. Although i do not remember having to type anything into the command line, the update started automatically? Any reason behind that?

Thats what i figured, some kind of autorun, but the only two files i put on the usb after making it bootable with hp format tool was the bios file and the efiflash tool that came with it from gigabytes website. Would it be embedded in the efiflash tool im guessing? I deleted the files from the usb drive and booted from it out of curiosity today and it boots into dos and had the bios update command already there, but because the files are deleted it says bad command or file not found. Was curious how it worked
