Hey all, so I have 2 r9 280x's that I plan to mine Litecoins with. I current have a Seasonic 750w PSU (I believe it's this model: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681...)

Maxed out I believe that the cards each use 250w? I have no plans to OC them. My question is would this PSU be able to handle both cards maxed out?

The rest of the system is:
i5-760
8GB G.Skill RAM
In a HAF X case with every fan slot filled (if their power matters?)

I have an extra 620W PSU that I could power one of the cards with if needed.

Let me know what you guys think, thanks for any help!

Yes, your power supply should be able to handle them both, but I wouldnt be overclocking anything.

R9 280X draws up to 250W and needs one 6 and one 8 pin power connector
2x250W =500 W
900W is the recommended for R9 280X and two 6 pin and two 8 pin power connectors
So , the 750W psu is not enough.

AMD recommends 30A minimum for a system with one R9-280x. The second card would need at most 300W under load, so another 25A.
That's a total of 55A. Your Seasonic 750W delivers up to 62A. It should work.

On second thought, the 30A recommendation for a system with a card that takes 25A by itself is insane... Yeah, use the second PSU for the second card, it's much safer.

Leave some power for the cpu , the motherboard ,RAM ,...

http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine shows a total system usage of 694 watts, with 10 140mm fans, 3 hdds(7200rpm) and a single dvd rw. Again, your 750 watt power supply should be enough, but I wouldn't overclock anything.

Exactly. I don't know why they said 30A, that can't possibly work when the card is fully loaded. It leaves only 5A, not even enough for the CPU.

I would honestly grab a quality 850w PSU like Corsair HX850w

Thanks for all the help guys! I also didn't mention there are 2 Mushkin Chronos SSDs in the system. I've seen some mixed reviews so I'm thinking I may opt for using both PSUs.

One other question I have is if I tested using both cards on the 750W PSU, are there any dangers of doing so and briefly under-powering the cards? Is this a risk I shouldn't take?

your cpu is 95W , mobo maybe -75W =170W +500W=670W . add memory .....

Bitmining uses 50 Watts more per R9 280X card. You should be using both PSUs if you're going to be mining for any length of time. A lot of heat will be given off by the GPUs s make sure your case has good ventilation.

So I bought a power monitor that my pc is now plugged into. Looks like whilst mining it's using around 660-670Watts. Thanks for the help guys!
