I'm getting a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 processor to replace my Pentium Dual core E5300 and i was wondering if i could use the pentium heatsink and fan on the Core 2 Quad. Is the heatsink and fan good enough to cool the quad core processor. Also how high should a cpu temperature be before it gets to hot. I ask because i just installed speedfan and in the taskbar it says the temperature is 62 degress celsius but when i scroll over it the popup has me confused about which temperature i should be worried about.

yeah, well the one that came with the computer when i brought it, which i assume is the stock pentium heatsink and fan.

I guess you could try it. If your Q8400 reaches temperatures over 70 Celsius it will throttle itself.

If you want an aftermarket cooler, I'd recommend the Hyper 212. It's quieter than the stock cooler and keeps the temperatures lower.

but more on speedfan. It says my temperature is as follows
GPU: 62C
System: 41C
CPU: 29C
AUX: 40C
HD0: 41C
HD1: 37C
Core 0: 43C
Core 1: 43C
Core: 62C
Ambient: 0C

What makes me so confused about this report is that the GPU temp and core temp is the same. Is the core temp just the top temp or is it something else.
