FX-6300 and overclock better or Fx-8320 stock clock? For gaming mainly.

Hi,

So i want to Upgrade my processor from FX-4100 and don't know what to decide.

My motherboard is msi 970a-g46 which means that If I buy the an FX-8320 I will have to use it without ever overclocking it.

But with the FX-6300, I can probably overclock it to 4.5 ghz or even more if the watts are stable.

I just want to know which would be better since 8320 is on sale with about $10 more than the 6300.

My rig:

CPU= AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz(Overcloked to 4.05 with Stock cooler)
Motherboard= MSI 970A-G46 AM3+
Graphic Card= GTX 660ti
RAM= G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333
Power supply= CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2
Case= Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming

P.S. My initial purpose is gaming usage for about this whole years until I wrap up enough money to go for a better $1200 Intel build and give this away to my brother.

  1. well the mobo isn't good for the power hungry 8 core, so the 6 core overclocked would serve you well if you can't afford a new mobo

    Why is it that you can over clock a 8320? whats the reason
  3. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/970A-G46.html#/?div=CPUSupport
    ACCORDING TO THERE website msi your board will accept the 8320
  4. In gaming, they are going to be roughly the same at stock. if you are going to do multimedia, the 8320 will do a better job.

    Goddammit, Didn't mean to pick the best answer...

    However, My Mobo does support the FX-8320 cause the max volt 125, so to overclock it will needs to go above 125 volts which could possibly fry the components.

    As I told you go for the fx 6300, in gaming it´s almost the same so with a oc like 4.1ghz or more the perfomance will be greater than the 8 core until you do some multimedia stuff.
  8. LOL your board will accept the 8320 at 125 watt that's the thermal for that chip but you can still oc I am with a 8320 and no harm no foul has happen to the board which is msi so Unless you go ape shit on the board and you board supports oc then you should be fine.
