Here's my dilemma, the gtx 780 sc acx has some nice improvements over the stock 780, and it might perform better than a R9 290. However, the R9 290 has mantle(up to 45% improvement on bf4). I know the 290 has temp issues, but I plan to get one with a custom cooler. These are over 80 dollars more expensive than the evga 780 sc acx, but I reckon they will get much cheaper, a little over the price the stock r9 290 was released at. Which would be better overall? temp, lifetime, drivers, noise, etc

my planned build:
CPU: i7 4770k
cpu cooling: kraken x40
mobo: asus z87 plus
psu: any 80+ 750 watt
case: fractal design r4 black pearl
hdd: 1tb western digital caviar 7200 rpm

msi r9 290 gaming: thttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127774

PLEASE NO AMD OR NVIDIA FANBOYS

edit: Seems like the price of the r9 290 dropped 100 dollars, still 80 dollars more expensive

Wow really? Where I live, the R9 290 non-reference cards are still $100 cheaper than the GTX 780 SC. If the R9 290 is $150 more expensive than the GTX 780, definitely go for the 780. I had this dilemma a few weeks ago, deciding whether to choose a R9 290 or GTX 780. I went with the GTX 780 mainly because of the heat issues and really wanted to try some the newer Nvidia features such Physx, God Rays and Gsync. And if you overclock like I have, the GTX 780 will surpass the R9 290 easily. And with AMD's mantle, I wouldn't get too excited, I saw the frames as well on the BF4 Mantle demonstration and I'm getting better frames with my GTX 780. The R9 290 is a good choice, but only if it's cheaper. The performance of the R9 290 over the GTX is...

The performance of the R9 290 over the GTX is only marginal unless you're running a 4K screen, if you're just gaming at 1080p and the GTX 780 is cheaper, get the 780.
