I currently have the I5-3570k, which is an excellent CPU. Eventually I will upgrade to the I7-4770k. Does the new a10-7850k hold a candle to either of those? I would be using my own dedicated GPU for the record.

As far as i remmember , A10-7850k built-in gpu is something like HD 7750 . i5 3570K is a dream for many gamers .It is a robust cpu .Dont upgrade to i7 , no use .Just get a strong video card .At least HD 7770 .For instance HD 7790,R9 270,GTX 760 .

Not at all, the A10-7850K is an APU from AMD, it is a CPU+GPU bundled on one chip (integrated graphics).
The CPU of the A10-7850 is good but compared to your 3570K or future 4770K there is NO MATCH, these two intel chip will perform a lot better on a CPU side.

The APUs from AMD like this A10 are better on the GPU side, their integrated GPU are far more capable for gaming than the equivalent HD Graphics from Intel.

To sum up, the A10-7850 in terms of graphics will be a lot better than your 3570 or 4770 integrated graphics (HD Graphics), but the processing power is not so good compared to these two.

The fact that you will be using a dedicated GPU makes the choice of an APU like the A10-7850k even more irrelevant. This chip is good when you want to have a compromise of both worlds without spending too much or to have a budget gaming PC.

Keep your 3570k and upgrade it to a 3770k if you feel the need, and upgrade your GPU when you need to. That will be the best choice!
