Hey guys,

I have a EVGA GTX 680 FTW that came with a backplate. I took it off to install an aftermarket cooler (Arctic Twin Turbo Accelero II) but the problem is that the backplate screwed in to the reference cooler to hold it in place. Without the reference cooler to hold it on the backplate doesn't stay on. I really would like to put the backplate back on as I have had it off for several months and the card is starting to warp. Does anyone who has used this cooler have any suggestions of how to get the backplate to stay on? Can i jury-rig it with eletrical tape?

Solution
The better solution would use zip ties. Tape becomes problematic because of the adhesive issues and shifts of the plate. You could always make a custom plate from metal parts from home depot just make sure it doesn't short the board. In the end it's your card you choose what the best option is for you.

I wasn't sure if it was safe given it would rest on the pcb

that's what the Washer is for. If you use cardboard or rubber or anything that won't short it out, you'll be good. The washer just can't touch the board, but other than that you're good to go.

You could also use imkvns idea with zipties, but personally I think that just looks to tacky and it still makes it semi loose.

I actually had some black zipties lying around so I figured what the hell. They aren't too bad to be honest since the backplate is black as well. It is still slightly loose but it is better than it was so i'll take it. May make a run out in the next few days and get some washers though. At any rate thanks for the suggestions guys.
