Hey THW,

Hoping you guys could help me out. This is my first solo build, and I'm having a god-awful time. I've already RMAed a defective CPU, MOBO& and PSU.

Anyways, here's a list of components.
Asus Z87-A mobo
750watt bronze PSU
Haswell i7-4770K

EVGA 2GB GDDR5 GEFORCE GTX 760

I installed windows and immediately inserted the CD-ROM that came with my motherboard, and downloaded all of the things on there. My next step was to go to the EVGA website and obtain the most recent driver for my graphics card. As soon as I downloaded the driver and restarted, it said "windows starting" then took me to a black-blank screen and would not boot windows.

I looked online and somebody said, update BIOS, which I did. Went to the ASUS site and upgraded to the most recent version (1707) by using a flash drive. When I reinstalled the graphics driver, instead of a blank screen, it gave me a rather large Windows icon over a blue background. The resolution was clearly improved from the generic 800x600.

Some other details
1. Windows boots in safe mode perfectly fine.
2. I'm having these problems with my screen plugs plugged into the video card.
3. When I pull out my video card and plug my screen plugs into the integrated graphics of my motherboard, windows starts up totally fine.

Please help! If you guys required any other details, don't be afraid to ask.

bad drivers. Download driver sweeper from 3dguru without your graphics card in the pc, then restart in safe mode. Open Driver Sweeper and clean out ALL the Nvidia drivers. Then install your GPU and reboot normally. Go to Nvidia website directly and download the latest drivers.

Boot windows and disable the integrated graphics card. Install the nvidia drivers and reboot. There are also options in your bios to turn off the integrated gfx if that doesn't work.

Too much effort listed above.

Just format, let Windows install all the drivers and don't touch the software CD's. Download the Nvidia package from their website and you're done.

It's a fresh install, don't break it further. Just try again. Uninstalling/reinstalling, driver sweeper etc is just going to cause registry errors down the line.

Did as Prowilma said. Same thing. When I have no driver installed, it boots to window.
I download the driver from the nvidia site after wiping, and whenever I boot it just takes me back to the blue screen with the windows logo. Trying imkvn next, then will do as Alec Mowat said. Hoping I find a solution. Really losing hope fast :(

Hey,

I know it's been a while since the last post on this topic, but i was wondering if somebody has found a solution for this problem? A friend of mine is having the exact same problems with his GTX 760. Appreaciate it if you could post a solution here so all may benefit in the future. Thanks in advance.

Solution:

Windows assumes that your onboard MOBO graphics and your GPU graphics are both plugged in and it counts it as two screens.

Right click, go into properties/appearance and disable the "on-board" motherboard screen.

He thanks for your fast reply, i've been busy a lot with the problem. But i'm not quite sure what you mean. Do i need to disable the onboard graphics unit? What do you mean with onboard motherboard screen. Thanks!

Sorry for the late response:
First off, determine what your operating system is. I will assume some form of windows. Go to your desktop, right click, and find the area where you can change the resolution of your screen.

So for Windows 7, go to the desktop, right click, and click screen resolution. In that area, you should see 2 screens listed: (One is your onboard graphics from your motherboard, the other is from your graphics card). You want to deselect, or change, the screen associated with your motherboard. If you fiddle around enough it should work! Keep me updated, hopefully I can still help!
