Adding on additional DIMM RAM Slots

I was wondering if they had created something that would allow you to have additional DIMM RAM slots other than the 2 that are on my motherboard. Maybe something that goes into a PCI express slot? Or even if you could add an extra two into your motherboard via additional construction. Even if it's a complex procedure I'm fairly savy. Probably not, but I thought I would ask.

Solution

I didn't really know what else to say. DIMM slots store memory for fast access by the CPU. The CPU can also access data from other places via the PCIe bus or motherboard SATA controllers but these will operate at a lower speed.

So the pool of memory that the CPU can "talk" to for Windows and other programs (including games) must be copied into this fast RAM, and it must sit in those memory slots on the motherboard as they are hardwired back to the CPU all for the purpose of SPEED.

In short the answer of whether you can add more System Memory to a PC is:

NO.
