Hi,
I have an HP Pavilion dv5 1106AX - 2008-9, which originally ran Vista.
I upgraded to Win 8 Consumer Preview (installer, not ISO, no traces of Vista left).
After the release of Windows 8, I was notified about the expiry of my preview copy. With it came the typical hurdle of no customization, rmz BSODs, 2-hourly restarts etc.
I tried to roll back to Vista, but the hard reset got me back to Windows 8, which I couldn't activate. Microsoft gave me a 6-month grace period to use this, until I installed Win 8.1 Pro Preview.
Now that this has also expired, I am looking at going to the final release. They say its free, and I believe them. I will be in a bit of a mess, however, if I have to give a product key.
So my question is: Do I need to give a product key at any stage to validate my copy, or can I go forward with no fears?
Thanking you,
Yours truly,
AK B
