Hi im thinking of getting powercolour 7870 ghz edition for my rig. But i saw reviews that their power consumption is high (500w?). Is that typical of a gaming gpu? If i were to change to a equivalent gpu with lower consumption what would it be if it exist? (r9 270/270x etc?)

My cpu and mobo would be i5-3350p + Asrock b75m dgs and i dont intend to OC etc

I hope thats the way because i saw the "500w" on its official website under specification tab so i assume that. Is that amount of power (plus minus) typical of gaming gpu?

assuming that you have some fans, 2 sticks of ddr3 ram your wattage will be 277 watts and recommended 327 watts based on http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp. i would still go for 500 watts as it will give you more overclocking headroom and upgrade easier. if you don't want to go with 500 watts maybe go with a corsair cx 430 watt psu which is 80 plus bronze.

Splendid

that is the recommended wattage for the power supply powering the whole rig, the card itself doesn't need that much. It'll draw around 120W max while gaming and furmark pushes it closer to 150W mark.

and all the 7870s are GHz editions, that is the stock gpu clock...
