Differences between FX-8350 vs FX-9590

looking to upgrade the old CPU and mobo towards something new, I have my eye on the AMD FX-8350 but i was wondering, is the FX-9590 much better? Also side question, should I get the crosshair V formula Z board, or should I wait for a possible PCIe3.0 am3+ Asus board?

Also, future proofing is generally a waste of money in computing, though that seems to be slowing down in the last few years in the CPU space.

However, Vishera/Piledriver does look like the last AM3+ chip to be made.

Simply put, a $300 CPU and $300 board over five years tends to be worse than a $200 CPU and a $100 board now, and the same again in another 2.5 years. Plus you save power and earn interest on your money.

If you are going to buy a VERY good cpu cooler and want to spend the money sure, go for the 9590, but I'd look at the 9370.

I run an 8350 and I love it though, handles all of the most demanding new gen games at the highest settings with a GTX 780. I run mine on an Asus Sabertooth board, and the Formula Z is even better and I'd recommend it with the 9590, or 9370.

Picking the 9xxx chips is a waste of money, like getting an Extreme Edition chip.

Just go with the 8350.

Also, don't bother spending lots on a motherboard. Personally, I think that Sabertooth/ROG are blingware and nothing else. Spend the money on a better GPU.

Also, PCIe3.0 is a gimmick on anything but x8/x8 CF/SLI. And 990FX doesn't have a shortage of lanes.

Well besides the obvious clock speed difference the FX-9590 draws considerably more Watts, requires water cooling and only certain boards can support it. I'd also like to point out according to the Asus website the Crosshair V Formula-Z can support cpu's up to 140w and while the FX-9590 draws 220w. If you were to get that board it would seem a you'll need to have at least BIOS version 1403 or higher. Otherwise there is no difference between the two and if I recall correctly just about everyone consider the FX-9370/9590 as overclocked FX-8350's.

I was looking into the PCIe3.0 thing because I am considering getting a titan, I like to save up and buy "top of the line stuff" that will last 5ish years before I need to upgrade again. I pretty much see that card as being by the time its not really relevant the price will come down and I can just buy a second one if ever need be.

Dont go with fx 9xxx series as it's a overclocked fx 8320.
If you have the budget, go for Intel higher end CPU(core i7 or even a ivy-e CPU).
I would recommend getting a 780ti instead of titan.
780ti use the same chip, just unlock meaning it's better, and it still cost less.
780ti is currently the best single-GPU out there.
titan is a balanced card between gaming and workstation GPU.
