I am what you would call tech challenged and I have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop for work that is wired in to my D-Link router along with my desktop. My other home computers work off the D-Link wireless and my desktop works wired into one of the D-Links 4 outputs. My work laptop is also wired in to the D-Link but will not connect to the internet. It seems like the laptop is always looking to Verify IP address. Any suggestions?

Solution
Try these steps:
1. power off the router.
2. ensure that no cables are loose at the back of the router
3. switch on router
4. open a command prompt (Win key + R > cmd) and enter these two commands
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Any further troubleshooting steps would require details about your firewall and the router setup.

Thanks....I will try it. I received some advice from another site and tried the prompts they gave and the computer said no wireless setup. We are trying to connect with the wired setup.

My advice was for a wired setup.

Control Panel>Network>Right click your wired network adapter>properties>TCP-IPv4>Configure>Everything must be automatic.

I tried the ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew. After the ipconfig/release we get a message that says "ip address for adapter local area connection has already been released.
No operation can be performed on NETMOTION virtual adapter while it has its media disconnected.

After ipconfig/renew we are told access is denied.

any other ideas would be appreciated.

could you try this to see if your network adapter is responding?

in command prompt type:
ping 172.0.0.1

also the cable from the laptop should not be plugged in the wan port if your router has one.

it is also worth updating/reinstalling the drivers:
1. Control Panel>Device Manager>Network Adapters>Right Click your wired network adapter>Uninstall
2. Download your network driver from the manufacturer's website. If it is not the e6430s or e6430atg, it can be found here:
Dell Latitude E6430
3. Install and reboot. Test.
