I recently purchased a new Quad core CPU that is about 3.0 ghz to replace my 2.2 ghz quad core one. How much better will it be? How do I go about overclocking?

Exactly, clock speed doesn't tell you anyting about the efficiency of a CPU. I've seen some CPUs with 2.0Ghz clock speed beat a 3.0Ghz because it is better optimized for the application.

Think about it like a car comparison. One is a tiny sport car with 200 HP and the other one is a heavy truck with 300 HP. The smaller car might beat the other one because it is more lightweight. Or even if the truck could beat it in a straigt line, the sport car will be ahead in curves beause it has better handling.

Same thing with CPUs, one CPU might take 20 steps to complete a particular task and another only 4 steps. So if the one with less clock speed is better optimized it might feel faster. And I'm not even talking about multi-core CPUs, having more cores is not necessarily a garantee it will be faster, because not every applications are optimized to support them. Some applications support only 1 core so even if you got 8, the other 7 will not be used. Bottom line, every application is different and might react differently for each CPU.

Alright, thank you
