Hi Tom's Hardware & Members,

I'm just inquiring to see which tech savvy person in this forum could advise what I could upgrade to from my 3x GTX 275's which are currently in triple SLI. What would the most recommended card or cards to upgrade to for performance? I don't really have a set budget in mind because I'm opened to suggestions. My current board is a EVGA x58, running a i7, with a 1000w power supply.

Thanks in advance for the support & recommendations!

I don't know about your current performance, but the GTX 770 runs all but the most demanding games at 60 FPS effortlessly (and even in the more demanding ones you, could just tweak it a little to give you better performance, especially with an after-market cooled card). It'll also certainly produce less heat and require less power...
Your PSU and MB will support two GTX 780 Ti cards.

You can't add three because you'd need an additional PSU, and your CPU is a bit too old for that sort of thing too. Besides, who the heck needs three GTX 780 Ti cards...

I'd say get one GTX 780 Ti now. Try it for a few weeks. Add another if you're not already happy.

Thanks for reply, I'm currently running @ 1920*1080.

Yeah I plan on doing upgrades to mobo & cpu later, right now it fits my needs.

If you're running at 1080p, there's really no reason to go beyond a GTX 770 or R9-280X. You could really go for overkill by trying to "future-proof", but in a market as rapidly changing as the silicone processor industry, your money would be better served buying one card now and then putting whatever else you were going to spend in a good savings account until you need to upgrade. Remember: the best time to upgrade is always next year.

Thanks for the solution, I'm going to purchase a GTX 780 Ti. Is there a better preference in brand? Cause I know there's a few different vendors of that card.

Interesting, just read this before I posted on the other members solution. Would I see/feel a decrease in performance? versus the 3x GTX275 or quite a bit of a increase. Right now the thing that is bothering me is my video cards put out a lot of heat cause of the triple SLI. Also I feel that if I upgrade to just the one card, less power consumption too.

Thanks for the prompt reply and solution.

Hey Bemused_Fred,

What do you think of this card?

EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Video Card - 4GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0 (x16), 1x Dual-Link DVI-D, 1x Dual-Link DVI-I, 1x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, DirectX 11.1, SLI, Dual-Slot, ACX Cooler, - 04G-P4-3774-KR

Seem's like NCIX has the best pricing on this video card.

=)

Best Regards,

Slin

EVGA has legendarily good customer service, so you should be alright there, and as you've got the ACX dual-fanned, after-market cooler, you should get low temps, low noise and lots of overclock potential. The one thing I would question is the 4GB of VRAM: even at 2550x1600, 2GB seems to be plenty, but if you wanna spend a few extra dollars on it, it probably won't kill you. Overall, it's a great card and you should be pretty set for the future.
