What is the cable on this GPU?

So I noticed something. I'm pretty new at hardware and I'm still trying to learn where each cable inside the PC goes. I noticed this cable going from the fan(?) into a 4 pin(?) port on the GPU it self.
Isn't the fan connected to the motherboard? What is it, anyway?

That cable is for the fan on the GPU.

The GPU gets what power it needs from the motherboard (and from PSU connectors for other models), that cable powers the fan on the GPU. The motherboard power the GPU and the GPU powers its fan.

The PCI-Ex16 expansion slot provides up to 75 watts of power to an expansion (graphics) card. Part of the power supplied is used to power the GPU fan.

Thank, you all guys. I also have to ask this:
All (or most) of the GPUs' fans work with power by the GPU itself? I'm pretty sure I've seen people connecting this cable on the motherboard.

The GPU fan will always get power from the GPU itself. The only cable that would connect from the motherboard to the GPU would be a two-pin S/PDIF audio cable.
