trouble w/ laptop, smart tv, & wireless router

i have internet set up through my laptop at my home. I bought a wireless router to set up for use of my new smart tv. the modem that I have to my laptop does not have an extra Ethernet port to connect my wireless router to. what can I do to get around this or is there a connector I need>

Connect the WAN port from the modem, to the WAN port on you router.(it will say WAN or colored differently from the rest of the ports) Then plug everything else into the router including your laptop. Now that you have a router you can connect the laptop wirelessly if you prefer. If you need help setting up the router post the router model.
