I'm trying to connect my new Asus RT-AC68U to my Bandluxe R500 4g modem/router that I've been using for a few months. I enabled DHCP on the Asus router and disabled it on the modem, I also tried it the other way around, and nothing. I can't get the router to establish an address. The modem works fine when I plug my pc directly into it though. The IP of the modem and router are 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 respectively. Everything else is set to automatic. What am I doing wrong?

It depends if you want to run both units as routers. You could use your asus as a AP and just use the radio part and let the other device control the nat and the routing.

To run both as routers you will need to make sure that the wan subnet and the lan subnet are different. You can for example user 192.168.1.x for the connection between the r500 and the asus and use 192.168.2.x to talk to your end PC from the asus.

That bandluxe device is interesting it is designed to be mounted outside that is not a common feature in a router.

Thanks for your reply, I tried to configure the routers in that manner as you suggested but something is still not working. I will try again after resetting both router and modem. The bandluxe device is actually an indoor wifi router/4g modem. The model is R520. It is a great modem but the wifi and routing capabilities are limited. I want to set up the Asus to handle all the routing and wifi and just connect the bandluxe to the router with my ethernet cable to let it handle the internet connection. The bandluxe has only one ethernet port but it also has a RJ-11 for VOLTE, but I haven't used that yet. I'll try the settings again, hopefully I just missed something.

Update: I got it to work! Just as you said I only had to change the subnet. After I reset the modem I turned on the router and it worked right away! So right now DHCP is enabled on the modem and on the Asus router. Tech support at my ISP told me I only needed it on one or the other. But putting it on a different subnet was the key.
