I'm trying to fix my friend's 3~ year old laptop. I've been able to install windows 7 successfully, but then the next day, it uninstalls itself. I've never seen this before. It makes me think it's a hardware problem. Potentially a HDD issue? It has an AMD CPU so it does get rather hot in there after long HD video sessions. It got up to 85c after watching a 3 minute music video in HD. So I'm starting to think the heat has started to damage some of the components. Any ideas or advice would be helpful!

Yeah he hasn't really taken very good care of this laptop. When I started doing some temp test I was pretty shocked at how high they were. It cracked the 90c mark pretty often watching a lot of netflix in HD.

But yeah, when I went to turn it on, it tried to load windows files and begin the installation, even after I had installed it already and was using it the day before. It's almost like it wiped it from the HDD.

Oh god no. I would never even think about repairing this. I'm just going to build him a desktop instead. Since the laptop never moves from the same spot. I had just never experienced this before so I was curious.
