Metro Last Light--like 5fps on my new computer.

Specs: FX-6300
Asus Radeon HD 7850 1gb
WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM
G. Skill Sniper 8gb DDR3-1600
1920 x 1080 21.5in monitor

Any reason why it is VERY slow? It is the same whether the detail is set at high, medium, or low. I just installed the game and understand that the 7850 1gb only gets about 30fps on high settings, but it is nowhere near 30fps. I've played wot at 8fps on an old notebook and this is even slower and choppier. Any tips?

I will assume you have the latest drivers installed for the video card but how about the motherboard? Does that video card need additional power and if so do you have that connected?

Actually, I didn't install anything for my video card or the motherboard. I'm sorry but I'm a noob; do the drivers come with the video card and motherboard? What additional power are you talking about?

I have a 500watt power supply if that helps. (EVGA 80+ bronze certified)

Well normally when you buy a video card or motherboard you get a CD with drivers. You can go to AMD's site to get the video drivers and as for the motherboard you can get those from the motherboard makers website.

Do you have PHYSX enabled?

As mentioned, you need both DRIVER and POWER.

1) Your card probably needs a 6-pin power cable.

2) Drivers are direct from AMD. Just install the auto-detect software and it will direct you to the correct one, or choose manually.

3) Once that's sorted, use the Metro BENCHMARK tool (start from the main folder). Make sure PHYSX is off. Many of the settings absolutely KILL performance such as DOF (Depth of Field), PhysX, etc. so turn off all the advanced features.

You can keep running Benchmarks to find the optimal settings. If SCREEN TEARING isn't too bad, then aim for 40FPS with VSYNC OFF, otherwise still aim for 35 to 40FPS but use VSYNC though the game will feel slightly sluggish. Normally you want 60FPS but I don't think that's likely.

1. I just tried installing the drivers that came with the graphics card box and they didn't install with my first few attempts...weird. RIGHT NOW, I tried again and it installed correctly. I don't understand why they didn't install at first.

Do I have to periodically download the new drivers, like every six months? Can I make it automatic?

2. My card was properly installed and connected with the power supply. :)
I'm playing wot at least with highest settings at 40-45 fps average, although I know it isn't an especially demanding game. Isn't wot more CPU bound?

3. What is the "main folder"? Is it something that I see when I open steam? I'll be sure to turn off the extra goodies that my budget-midstream graphics card can't handle; I doubt 60fps is possible with this game too!

Just installed the drivers, turned off phys X, V sync (both were turned off before, too!) and put it on medium graphics. Same thing. Like 5fps, definitely unplayable. Anything else?

I didn't see a "metro benchmark tool" from the start menu so I couldn't turn off DOF or any other features. The only features I saw were the graphics quality, Vsync, phys X, and maybe another one.

What drivers should I install for my motherboard? Here is the website I found.

Do I install the most recent Bios driver? Or another one?

1) Benchmark tool is found in the main game FOLDER, there's no direct link. Open Windows Explorer, then search the drive the game is installed to for "metrollbenchmark" and then right-click it to make a Desktop Shortcut to launch easier.

2) Get the latest driver from AMD's website.
There are periodic updates. I think you can set the CATALYST CONTROL CENTER to check for updates but I have an NVidia card now.

3) In the CCC, set your scaling to:
a) Scale on the GPU, and
b) Scale by ASPECT RATIO

4) You can update to the latest BIOS if you wish though it shouldn't affect performance.

5) Open the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) then set "Performance" to show all cores instead of one graph to ensure all cores are being used. I forget the wording.

6) Motherboard drivers:
a) CHIPSET: I think this is the latest-> AMD Chipset Driver V8.0.903.0

b) Audio, LAN, USB, SATA

c) AI Suite

Other:
Since WOW is running okay, your system is generally fine so it appears to be a problem with the game settings. You can probably raise WOW to maintain 60FPS (with VSYNC) if you adjust a few settings such as AA (anti-aliasing).

**You should get roughly 50FPS AVERAGE at the following settings:

Try these BENCHMARK SETTINGS:

- DX10 (not DX11)
- 1600x900
- Medium
- AF 4X
- Motion Blur LOW
- SSAO (unchecked)
- Advanced PhysX (unchecked)

Running test...

min: 34 FPS
average: 117 FPS

System:
GTX680
i7-3770K
8GB DDR3

Benchmarks: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/metro_last_light_g...

Not the same settings at all, but an HD7850 can get 27FPS on better settings than the above. Different CPU of course, but yours is good enough.

Something very ODD going in since WOW works. You said you disabled PHYSX, but that's really the only thing that should affect performance that much.

Anyway, update after the drivers are installed and you run the Benchmark for Metro LL.

FYI, I'm not playing world of warcraft (WOW) but world of tanks. (WOT)

1. I just went to my C drive and searched for "metrollbenchmark" but nothing showed up. Sorry, I'm not that familiar with video games and technology as you guys--which is why I'm not understanding the instructions you guys are writing me. I'm not able to find the "folder" for metro last light.

2. I downloaded the driver(s) included with the graphics card but when I found this website the correct driver wouldn't show up. (when I searched for the newest driver)

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

The AMD driver autodetect program says that I have the most recent driver.

3. What does this mean?
"In the CCC, set your scaling to:
a) Scale on the GPU, and
b) Scale by ASPECT RATIO"

4. Why should I look at the CPU usage when playing a game? When I do open the task manager to look at my system performance it kicks me out of the game. I assume that you are telling me to do this to diagnose an issue with the CPU, right?

5. I'm not a computer illiterate person but I'm not a techie. I can type very fast, know keyboard short cuts, and can use some basic computer programs like Excel, Word, or Powerpoint. But this other stuff is literally a different language for me; sorry but I really don't understand a lot of the responses.

1. How do I play the game in direct X 10 vs direct X 11? The search for "metrollbenchmark" finally finished and I got to the page where I can change options.

2. Do the game proportions look all weird with a non-native monitor resolution? My monitor is 1920 x 1080.

3. All the benchmark settings I put were already very, very low (low graphics, no AA, etc, etc) but it was still very choppy. 5fps.

4. Again, I'm a computer idiot compared to you guys. Unfortunately, if I'm told to just "download AMD driver" I don't know how to do that. I did a google search and got to the AMD page but it still wouldn't work. I couldn't find the 7850 1gb driver.

Thanks a lot guys; it is set at medium graphics, 1920 x 1080 with all the visual effects turned off and it is fluid now! Sorry for my noob questions.
