Ok so my house is 12 years old and I have a RJ-11 panel in my room and when I opened it it was a Cat 5 cable. So can I re-crimp the cable to an RJ-45 and is the Cat 5 wire slow or should I replace it with 5e. On my 5e wire downstairs I get 30 megabit download speed one megabit upload speed (what I pay for). Would the cat 5 do this or would it be slower. Also what would I have to do on the other end of the cable?
Thanks

Cat 5 should do 100m. It will likely work at gig even if it technically does not meet the specs....short distances have a much better chance.

You need a small switch at the common end where all the cable from the house terminate. If its on a phone system they are all likely hooked together either though a special patch device or they just twisted the wires together. Worse case is if they did not home run every jack back to a central location. If they are daisy chained though the jacks it will be very hard to use it for data.
