Hey all,

I'm currently running the following:

CPU: AMD Phenom ii 955 x4 Black Edition
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB
RAM: 8gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz CL9 XMP
PSU: Corsair CX 500
MOBO: ASRock N68C-S UCC
Cooling: Xigmatek CAC Gaia
OS: Win7 64Bit Home Premium
HDD: WD Caviar blue 500gb sata
CASE: Generic Midi Tower

I'm looking to upgrade somewhat, I'll mainly be using the system for gaming, running WoW and PS2 mostly, but games such as The Bureau and Borderlands 2 a lot as well.

I'm looking to spend around £400ish and was looking at getting the I5-4670k with an MSI Z87 G45 Mobo and putting it all in a Corsair Carbide 300R case. Any left over money would be thrown at another set of Corsair 2x4gb CL9 sticks.

The advice I'm looking for is, If i took this route would I need to upgrade any other parts, PSU etc

Would this be a worth while upgrade?

Any advice on this would be appreciated greatly, and if anyone has any alternatives I should look into that'd be great too.

Thanks all

Jex

You CPU is still pretty powerful today, if you overclock it to about 3.8 or 4.0 ghz you'll see even better performance and get a new GPU like a GTX 770 or something. But if you want an i5 4670k I can't complain and it is definitely worth while.

I actually only upgraded to the GTX650ti a month ago, so i don't really want to let that go just yet xD

Would this bottlenecking be whats causing me to lag on big WoW fights and Makes PS2 unplayable as soon as I even see combat?

Cos i'll be honest, those are the reasons i'm looking at upgrading again

GTX 650 Ti Boost is a very strong card . The real culprit is the processor.

ok, So i'm going to go for the I5 with the Asus z87-k Mobo (no interest in SLI, these parts only need to last me a year or so), Corsair Carbide 300R and an SSD which i'm yet to decide on.

Will my PSU need to be upgraded? or will it give me some ability to over clock for now should I choose too?

And is there anything else i need to take into consideration with this upgrade? New cooler etc?

You are unlikely to need another psu , because 450W psu is usually enough for GTX 650 ti boost. Furthermore, AMD Phenom ii 955 BE is 125W but i5 4670 is only 84W.

If you have problem with low power state of Haswell , just turn this state off from BIOS.

Ok then, I'm going for the i5-4670k, the Asus z87-k mobo, wit hthe corsair carbide 300r case and a Samsung Evo 120gb SSD.

Thanks all for the help, especially Whitecat, you've been immense.

One last question, Can anyone recommend an online Retailer in the UK?
I've been looking on amazon, cos i've been stung by fake internet companies on my last upgrade attempt.
