Hi there,

i am new to Tom'sHardware (new account, but know it for a longer time :D). I decided to create a account because i experience a problem i can't solve :??: .

I have my "budget game pc" for one year now. I have had a stable overclock from the beginning. but after 2/3 of a year with this stable overclock, one day i booted up my pc and WHAM! BSOD (at windows boot screen).

I tried to look up the error (after setting default bios settings "non-overclock") via "Bluescreenview", but no errors seemed to be saved ??..

The big problem:
After this crash, i cannot overclock my system anymore. It is perfectly stable on default settings. But when i try to overclock even just a bit it will crash!.

I tried a new PSU and tested my RAM (even tried other RAM from a friend), updated BIOS, but nothing seems to work.

I hope i can get some awnsers from this community, I am NOT an experienced overclocker, let that be perfectly clear!!:p but when i did this overclock when i got my pc, i did my research and tested for stability with prime95 for close to 24 hours.

MY SPECS:

-CPU: Intel i5-3570K;
*CPU cooler: Antec Kuhler H2O 620;
-MOBO: Gigabyte Z77x-D3H (rev 1.0);
-RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP (8GB ddr3) (2x 4GB) (Running: 1600mhz);
-GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 (GHZ edition 2G GDDR5);
-SSD: Samsung 840 (120GB) (for windows and some games i play a lot);
-HDD: 3TB (for data and other games).

I hope someone can give me some pointers for hardware troubleshooting or any other option that will solve my problem.

If there is more information needed please feel free to ask. is for example the information about my old overclock needed??.

SORRY FOR BAD GRAMMAR (im from the Netherlands, so English is not my first language).

Sorry, i have edited my thread now. I have a watercooler. and use "openhardwaremonitor" constantly to check temps.

I clean it every 3 / 4 months.

MAX TEMPS in the past 36 hours for my cpu = 54 degrees celcius (when i was playing DayZ).

Now it is 24 / 25 degrees.

thank you for your quick reply!

I used to have a stable overclock on 4.3 ghz (turbo) with allmost all settings on AUTO. (cpu VTT= auto , CPU Vcore=auto , CPU PLL=1,650v)

Did not overclock the RAM other than selecting the standard profile for rumming the 1600mhz.

But now, when i even try to overclock just a bit, i get BSOD on windows loading screen.

please turn turbo mode off, to do this you may have to select overclock per core, insted of all cores.

Change your load line calibration to 2.
change your vcore to offset. and set it to -0.05 ( please run prime 95 and cpu z to make sure at load your vcore is 1.2v or there abouts)
leave speed step on, leave eist on
all the other power management things (c states and what not) turn them off)

This will be stable at 4.4ghz but you will need to check your temps

Thank you my friend!

I am stable now on 4.4 and 4.5 ghz.

core 1 and 4 are around 70 degrees celcius on full load with prime.
**BUT** core 2 and 3 become far more hot (about 77 degrees celcius).. I've read that its best to keep it under 70 degrees with this cpu..

but with gaming the temps will never get this high right??

EDIT: i could not find all the options you told me to change. (like vcore set to offset... maybe it is called different.. i now have it on AUTO and Vcore spikes at 1.4V!!....

Hi, i have a Gigabyte Z77x-D3H mobo. I have an option called Dynamic Vcore if i remember right, but could not find the Offset option you where talking about'...

I currently have it OFF auto and on default speeds.. i am still searching for the minimal stable voltage.. When i put it on 1.2 vcore and 4.4ghz it crashes on startup. im doing little steps with the vcore.. going to experiment tonight again/
