hi i have a:
asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 motherboard
amd fx-8350 CPU
and the 8gb dual vengeance RAM (CMZ8GX3M2A2400C10)

and on my sticks of RAM it says 2400mhz, but in the BIOS there set to 1333mhz. so can i just set it to 2400mhz or is there a reason there set to 1333mhz?

Solution
AMD FX series CPU's have a memory controller that supports up to 1866mhz so if you go in the BIOS and choose that speed it will set the ram run at that speed and that's even if you set the xmp profile. While looking in your BIOS even if it allows you to set the profile it's still not going to jump to 2400mhz so in order to reach this speed or anything higher you will need to overclock the memory and if needed change the memory timing to what was provided on the box of the ram for 2400mhz.
