Let's start with the spec;

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
Motherboard: Asus M4A87TD USB3
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333mhz (4x 2GB)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5850

A few days ago my PSU popped while playing a game. I replaced it and the system worked fine for around 12hours, but after being switched off for the night it wouldn't boot.

Problem: The fans wirr, the HDDs spin, the mobo lights up... but no POST and nothing on the screen.

It's probably completely unrelated but I realised the 12v rail on the replacement PSU was only capable of kicking out 32amps max, my GPU requires 35-40amps... It very likely wasn't the problem but I replaced it with a Corsair VS650 which does the trick.

So new PSU, again it worked great for a day, next day... same situation. No post, fans wirr, HDDs spin, lights, camera, no action.

And that's where I'm at now. I get no system beeps UNLESS I remove the RAM which results in 1 long 2 short (bad memory). Hmm so to me that would suggest a problem with the RAM? But after trying all combinations of sticks in slots I've found that ANY single stick at all makes the beeps disappear, leaving me back where I began... no beeps, no screen. I've tried everything (the motherboard is currently out of the case with only the CPU, it's fan, the 24pin and 4pin power leads and speaker/PW reset and power cables connected to eliminate possibilities).

Solution? I'm thinking the PSU popping managed to damage something on the motherboard. I can't really understand why it would then work for a day... but anyway I just need someone to reassure me it's likely the mobo is faulty over the CPU so I feel better about getting a replacement mobo.

It's decided. I'm going for a new mobo and really really hoping it's not the CPU.

I'll post back if it was the mobo just incase one day someone runs into the exact same problem. There are many threads with very similar but not quite the same questions.
