I know there are a lot of questions, but I need help buying my new gaming setup:
--Is a mechanical keyboard really as beneficial as people say(current membrane)? How much better are they/ are they worth the cost?
--Are wired keyboards/mouse significantly better than wireless(current wireless)? Is it worth having a wire going across the room?
--Are gamepads beneficial to people's gaming experience/ are they better than keyboards for BF4?(current keyboard)
--If they are wired, is the keyboard better off going into the USB slot (either 2.0 or 3.0) or PS/2?
--What DPI on the mouse is best(current 2000)? Do I go for a really high DPI mouse and set in-game sensitivity to 6%(BF4)?

EDIT: When I say gamepad, I mean the Razer Orbweaver type things, the small keypads for games.

They are all very personal preference questions.

Here's my take.
Yes a mechanical keyboard is beneficial, how much better are they? that's purely up to you to decide, i would suggest going to a store and trying out different keyboards. Are they worth the cost? depends on how much you are willing to spend.
A gamepad would be better for mmo/rpg games, i don't really see the need for a fps game.
It would be hard to find a ps/2 keyboard apart from a select few maybe, any usb slot should be fine.
I use 1800dpi with a windows pointer speed set to 6.

And as for wireless; I use a mechanical red mx keyboard with 2 wireless mice depending on the application. Both of them I absolutely love and if I ever do need to go wired it's as simple as plugging the cord in. I just hate having the resistance from the cord factor into my movements.
