A powerline is not a cat6 connection. If you are running a long ethernet cable from your machine to the router then that is a cat6 connection.

Powerline networks are actually more similar to wireless than ethernet. They use radio frequencies to transmit the data over the power cables. They are just transmitting them over the wire rather than over the air. They use a completely different protocol than a wireless connection but they are still subject to many of the same issues of signal loss and interference.

How well powerline device work very greatly from house to house. Some they do not work at all and others you can get well over 100m on.
