Hi,

I have window 7 on C drive and XP on F drive, but while booting up I am not getting the screen where it asks to choose the operating system

Earlier I used to get Earlier version of windows and new version of windows as two options but now system is directly starting up with xp without giving an option to choose which operating system I want to select.
It is driving me crazy.

IN Goto system properties -->advanced -->startup and recovery
edit place showing

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Please Help.

Any suggestion are much appricated.

Hi
I need you to answer my questions above
If you do not understand them ask some one to find the answers

Go to control panel computer management find disk management and look at partitions record their size and label
See which partition is active

I need to know which windows was installed first

You should back up any important information as if you make a mistake you may need an expert to sort things out for you

Boot.ini is for XP.
Both entries point to partition 4

What did you do to break the windows 7 boot manager menu ?

Hi

Was your boot menu windows 7 or XP ?

Was XP or 7 installed first

Can you still boot XP ?

If XP boots then it is on 4th partition

It looks as if you have reset XP partition as boot partition instead of win 7 partition

However you need to look in disk management to see if win 7 is first or second partition (if win 7 was installed first there would be a small hidden partition before c: which should be bootable and have the multi boot menu
