I have purchased a Asus rt-n10u wirless-N150 Router, when I connect DSL/ Ethernet cable between my PC and router, it shows disconnected (red cross in LAN icon) in PC and green light don't blink in router.

I tried my friends computer it works fine and appear browser for setup (they don't use cable internet connection).
I think my PC has no problem because my old Thomson tg585v7 router works fine in my PC and I also use broadband cable connection.

when i connect ASUS via my old Thomson router, Asus router work with my PC (appear browser for setup and I can browse by IP 192.168.1.1). My PC is fine and my new router is fine, but no connection between them. I have tried win7, win8 32/64bit OS, but same problem.

I am a beginner user of router. So, help me in this situation please.

Hi

I assume the blue port is connected to Internet modem or cable modem and your PC to any of the 4 yellow ports (switch)
If not re connect them

The user guide will give the address to connect to router setup screen
Not all use 192.168.1.1

But if no connection that will not work
Is Ethernet cable new .?
occasionally some switches will accept standard & cross over cables others only standard cables

Best of luck

Thank you Mike Barnes for replying me,

I have 3 Ethernet cable all are new.
I have tried all Ethernet port. It dose not work with my PC, but worked with my friends PC. I think my wan port (blue ) works, it blink in router when i connect internet cable. Problem is in lan port.
Unfortunately, I can't differentiate standard & cross over cables.

Please give me another suggestion.

On your computer, Go to Control panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center>on the left side click on change adapter settings. Right click on Local area connection then click on properties. Select IPV4 and click properties. Make sure “Obtain IP address automatically is selected and “Obtain DNS settings automatically is checked”. Restart your computer and try to connect to router again.

Reading your post again it makes me thing that your router is not a ADSL router if your are trying to replace your Thomson tg585v7 which is a DSL router. In any case, you should be able to pull up the config page of the ASUS router if you connect from the LAN port of the router to your PC.

Does your router ports look like this: http://www.asus.com/Networking/DSLN10/#gallery
Note the difference in the blue plug which is a ADSL connection.

My Thomson tg585v7 is a ADSL router and my ASUS rt-n10u is a DSL router this is the link http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN10U_B/#gallery .
Thomson tg585v7 works fine with my PC (just LAN port, I don't have an ADSL cable connection). If I connect my ASUS with Thomson then Asus works and I also can configure by IP (PC>THOMSON>ASUS works, PC > ASUS not works)

Hi

Just a need for clarification

The new Asus router wireless does not include a adsl modem so requires connecting to internet by adsl modem or cable modem or modem router

The new Asus router will pick up network address from the upstream modem router
Your PC May be confused as to which upstream device provides the dhcp address service

Try at command line
Ipconfig /all
Report result

Try fixed IP address
Such as 192.168.1.11
(Unlikely to be used on small network)

Just checked Thompson tg585. Is a. Adsl modem router wireless device
Connects to telephone socket with RJ11 plug at adsl port

Another thought what was wrong with old Thompson device ?

"Just checked Thompson tg585. Is a. Adsl modem router wireless device

I just tried to say my PC has no problem because it connects Thomson, and ASUS has no problem it connects my friends PC. Forget about Thomson I just want to connect ASUS with my PC like my friends computers.

The new Asus router wireless requires connecting to the internet by cable modem.

You need to have the thompson in place before the ASUS router. THe thompson is a ADSL modem router the ASUS is not. You would connect the DSL line to the Thompson. Then use one of the LAN port on the Thompson and connect that to the blue port of the ASUS. You can then connect your PC to one of the yellow LAN port on the ASUS. The only way you can bypass the thompson is to get an ADSL modem/router. The picture shown above is NOT a ADSL modem/router.

If you want to just pullup the configuration page on the ASUS, disconnect the cable you connected on the BLUE port of the ASUS. Then just connect one of the LAN yellow port to your computer and you will be able to pull it up.

Hello Dizzyh,

I have a DSL, cable connection and DSL router (ASUS). I just want to connect ASUS with PC, but here is the problem, yellow ports (LAN ports) are not working or detecting by PC. Blue port is fine with my DSL internet cable connection. I don't want Thomson.

Reset asus router, there is a little pin hole in the back. With the asus powered on, use a paperclip and push the reset button for 20 seconds then release. Disconnect the blue plug for now. Plug into one of the yellow ports of the ASUS and the other into your PC. Restart your computer and try to connect to the ASUS config page again.

By the way, I would just go out and get a new Ethernet cable also.

I also tried resetting, same problem.
If I upgrade firmware or buy a new network card then is there any possibility to solve this problem
