I just recently ordered parts to build a custom computer besides a HDD. I already have one from my old dell XP that operates 1.5gb/s SATA I. My motherboard I ordered is 6.0gb/s. Can I use my XP HDD with my new mobo?

Please help!

Yes, that will work.
It is a rather old drive and will fail sooner or later. You should probably be looking to a new one. How big is it?

Could I format the drive when I go to install windows 7 on it, I don't really want XP anyway? So the drive will work on my new mobo?

yes, the drive will work, but obviously, only at the speeds that sata i is capable of. formatting wont be a problem either, just boot windows/linux install cd/usb/dvd and let the setup have its wicked way with your hdd :)
