The CPU cooler needs to be compatible with the motherboard socket. Many CPU coolers are universal in that they include brackets which allow them to fit with just about any motherboard CPU socket.
The cooler needs to be compatible with the socket type (2011, AM3+, 1150,...) and the thermal design power. A 95W cpu needs a bigger cooler, then a 60W cpu.
