Hello, looking to buy a gaming PC in the future. Obviously my date is further into the future that is ideal, but would like to know what specs would be best for me to compare to a custom build and/or site build, and to plan for the best budget, i.e. too low, too high etc. I'm leaning away from a custom build (I don't want to put myself in a position of knowing nothing and ruining expensive parts.) Looking for all and any advice available, and i appreciate any help I receive. Thank you.

Approximate Purchase Date: 5/2014

Budget Range: $1200

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing web, streaming, torrents

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Location: Chicago, IL USA

Parts Preferences: Thinking I7 processer

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: Don't know

Your Monitor Resolution: Looking at 1600x1200

Additional Comments: Currently own:p ortal 1&2, Amnesia games, Bioshock 1-Infinite, Sims 2,3. Future: Batman Origins, Diablo 3, Age of Empires HD, etc.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Have a laptop, but the video card is too outdated for Bioshock 2 to even run.

My personal thoughts:

"Approximate Purchase Date: 5/2014" Good timing, hopefully the GTX 800' series cards will be out then and prices on competition/prev gen will be optimal.

"Budget Range: $1200" Solid budget, shouldnt have to skimp on anything!

"Parts Preferences: Thinking I7 processer" I used to be snobbish towards non HT i5's...but the value is just too good to overlook. Especially if youre gaming first and foremost.

"Overclocking: Yes" Awesome. Make sure not to skimp on the PSU. Choose something with more watts than exactly needed (and a good brand: Corsair, Seasonic, XFX, Rosewill), give you some headroom to OC and potentially SLI/CFX in the future.

"Your Monitor Resolution: Looking at 1600x1200" Typo? 1920x1200? Great Res and aspect ratio.

"Additional Comments: Currently own:p  ortal 1&2, Amnesia games, Bioshock 1-Infinite, Sims 2,3. Future: Batman Origins, Diablo 3, Age of Empires HD, etc." Not implying anything about future titles...but no crazy heavy hitters in there. Dont let folks talk you into "needing a high end card" necessarily.
