I originally had my mind set on an R9 280X back when it was going for under £200. However now its rocketed up about another £50 it no longer seems to be the best value for money. Also i'm skeptical about my PSU being able to handle that much power in a card (it's a really crappy 850W PSU by a brand no ones ever heard of). So what would the best card be for 1080p gaming would you say? Preferably around the price range of £200.

Cheers, for £50 more though is the R9 280x really worth it? Will it be noticeably better than the gtx 760

Simple answer:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 (~250$) best in that price range and great for 1080p gaming.

You can get an MSI GeForce GTX 760 too, MSI & Gigabyte are evenly matched. But I'm still gonna stay with the GTX 760.

Hmm yeh 50 quid more for an R9 280x is a bit much for me, think i'll go with the 760 I reckon.

The 280x beats the 760 by quite some. Except BF3.

A 760 is a good enough card, no need to buy the 280x, its like buying a gtx 770 when you compare the 760 to a 280x

Yeah, but they're the same cards, only the 280x can be clocked higher.

The GTX770 is cheaper and better than the R9 280x, so if youre looking to buy the 280x, consider the GTX770

Not by much and it has 2gb or Vram, except the 4gb which is uselles on that card, and cost more than most people's PCs.
Plus in Europe the 770 costs MUCH MUCH more.

At 1080p, a GTX 760 will max out most everything short of Crysis 3. It's very hard to beat the Price/Performance ratio, as well.

Honestly, for anything higher than 1080p you'd need to go considerably higher anyway, so I'd save that extra money for when those higher-end cards are considerably cheaper.

It starts at €250 in Europe.

Hmmm did some more research and I've narrowed it down to 2 options:

1) A Gigabyte GTX 760 for £200 with Assassins Creed: Black Flag

OR

2) A Gigabyte R9 280X for £226 with battlefield 4

Which one guyz I've never bought a graphics card before.

Not gonna be a fanboy here, but the r9 280x is better here. Even if you don't like BF4 you can sell it for 25-30$ or so. So you'll spend as much as on the 760, while having better performance.

Honestly, for that price, you're actually getting better performance per dollar with the R9 280X. Extra 10% cost for up to 25% faster? Yes please.
