What's the best air cooler out right now, under £100?
Been looking at BeQuiet and Nochtua but can't decide....??
Thanks.

Thanks guys. Gonna go with the Be Quiet Dark Rock 3 (a bit lighter than the ridiculous 'Pro' version:). It's probably one of the quietest too but also liking the idea that it's German engineering throughout.
Cheers.

I was going to call you lucky for be able to get such early access to the Dark Rock 3 series, but I see that, for us Americans, NCIX has started to carry it as well! Brilliant!

Either way, I think overall you be quite happy. I obtained a Shadow Rock 2 not too long ago, and it's a stalwart piece of equipment. My only complaint is that the installation is a bit trickier than your average CPU cooler to install. I also didn't like how Be Quiet! only had one set of fan clips for the cooler, but they sent me an additional pair after I had contacted them about it. (Straight from Germany! Took about a week and a half.) Even though their products are a bit on the more expensive side, they seriously are very well made.

The only reason I'm not going for the 'pro' is it's size/weight. I would be worried about all that weight hanging off the motherboard (Maximus VI Formula)....??
Although the basic DR3 isn't a whole lot lighter.......

1.2 kg is pretty formidable - but remember, there wouldn't be a market for it if it wasn't designed to work. Just be careful.

I tried a push-pull on my Shadow Rock 2; that puts it close to 1.3 kg. So things aren't going to magically break your motherboard. (Keep in mind how heavy some graphics cards are.)

Hmmm, wonder if I might as well just go for the 'pro' then. Do you reckon a 'DR 3 pro' would fit within a fractal design Define XL R2 and Maximus VI Formula...??

OK, at least I know it'll fit but,
I've also been seriously consider the Corsair H110 water cooler. I imagine this cools more efficiently but it's probably nowhere near as quiet as the DR3... The other thing is I have a fundamental aversion to water being anywhere near electronics, especially the expensive kind... But it would be a much neater and efficient solution.....

Someone else is going to have to chime on that subject. There are plenty of people happy with their water cooling solutions, but I strong adherent to Murphy's Law - what can go wrong will. It's nice to just slap on another fan - the only thing that can go mechanically fail with air cooling - in the case that the one on your CPU heatsink goes bad.

However, I think Corsair carries some sort of guarantee that if their component ruins your system, they'll reimburse you?
