I have a Asus gryphon z87, and in the manual it says that the motherboard only supports Windows 8 and Windows 7. I would like to be having a dual boot with Linux and windows 7. Help!!!

MrNerd, did you try it? I am ordering this motherboard and very curious if it works with linux. I read that the built in ethernet chip may not play well with linux and requires a few extra steps.

Linux will always take extra steps because of its nature. I don't think many, if any, motherboards out there officially support Linux because it's not a static OS; it has many variations.

My previous answer was given under the assumption that you already had the motherboard; I wouldn't have said that if I knew you'd be spending money without knowing for sure Linux would work.

I have a file server running Debian Jessie (current testing) on this motherboard. Runs Raid 5 like a dream. It has been on most of the past 2 days (except for rearranging the office and updating packages). It is a somewhat safe bet that any Debian-based distro will work on it. Keep in mind that the Gryphon is brand new hardware in the eyes of Linux, so make sure you use a distribution with a kernel of 3.9 or higher.

Following up on my own question. I received this motherboard 3 weeks ago. So far it works fine with ubuntu 13.10 (kernel 3.11). Ethernet card didn't need any voodoo. All SATAs are working. USB3 is up. Memory is properly autodetected. eSATA via extra PCI card detected and works out of the box. I don't want to jinx it but so far everything simply works.

If it helps anyone my functional and (as turns out) linux fully supported configuration is:
ASUS GRYPHON Z87 DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 Motherboard
i7-4770S
Crucial Ballistix Sport Very Low Profile 32GB Kit (8GBx4) DDR3-1600 1.35V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory
WD VelociRaptor 500 GB x 2 (Software RAID1 via mdadm)
Corsair CX Series 430 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Bronze ATX12V/EPS12V 384 Power Supply CX430M
StarTech.com 2 Port PCI Express eSATA Controller Adapter Card

I have Ubuntu 14.04 running on Gryphon Z87. Does your system fan go up and not come down? My system is constantly quite loud when I run Ubuntu. Very quiet in Windows (only loud when running intensive apps like games). This problem is really annoying me at the moment, I love linux and I'd be really upset if linux doesn't run properly on the Gryphon Z87. A very simple description of my setup just off the top of my head:

- Gryphon Z87
- i5 4570
- Radeon 6970
- 16GB memory
- Seagate 1TB hard drive

raaaaaymond,
my fans run high first few seconds during boot and then I can't hear them. I haven't upgraded to 14.04 yet as I usually wait a month before I upgrade to a new release. Did you build the system yourself or bought it with windows preinstalled?
