i need to use RDP over a local network - android or iOS tablet to my laptop running win 7 pro
i need to be able to do this when the network is not connected to the internet.

i have an older netgear router, and RDP works fine when my laptop and my tablet are connected to that router.

i have just bought a new router - a netgear wnr 1000 v3

i now can not get RDP to work from any device to that same laptop on the new router, - both the the laptop and the tablet are on the same new network created by the new router

i am using the 2X client

i have created a new connection in the client with the new ip# of my laptop on the new router, and all other properties of the connection appear the same as the connection set up for the old router.

for what it's worth i have tried several routers, and several clients.

i can _only_ connect to my laptop using the old router.

help!!!

When you port forward 3389 you are telling the router that if it has any request for RDP forward it to whatever ip you setup on that port. Re-reading you post again I see you are try to RDP internal only. The setting I told you to change would forward any external RDP request.

As for the internal go to control panel, network and sharing, under your active networks, set that to HOME. Also check these settings: right click on My Computer, go to properties, advanced system setting, remote and check "allow remote assistance" and "allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop."

Last setting to check: go to your firewall, click on allow a program or feature through windows firewall, scroll down to remote...

Check you don't have wireless isolation turned on, on the router. (clients cant see each other)
try changing the port number you are using incase it's being blocked.
is the wireless and Ethernet on the same broadcast domain/subnet?

Login to your router, Click the Port Forwarding / Port Triggering link near the left of the page. Put a dot into the Port Forwarding radio button.
Click the Add Custom Service button near the bottom of the page. Forward Ports 3389 on the Netgear WNR1000v3.

Service Name: Name Whatever your want
Protocol: TCP/UDP
Starting Port: 3389
Ending Port: 3389
Server IP Address: Input the ip address of your computer you are trying to RDP

If you do not know the ip, go to start, type cmd, then type ipconfig

Would this actually trigger if the traffic is internal? and would it not stop the traffic from one of the PC's? this is what confused me.
