A few days ago i opened up my computer for a small issue and i noticed there was a considerable amount of dust inside only from a few months since building it. While i had it unplugged and open, i vacuumed the only case fan i have on it, the cpu fan, and the rest of the inside carefully. If there was already dust on the inside afer just months, imagine after a year or multiple years! Im sure dust cant be good for a bare mobo and other components- shorts, fire danger, etc.

What can i do to minimize the amount of dust from getting in? I know there are case fan filters, but what else can i do? What about for the open and empty case fan placement spots? Please let me know of any and all ways i can keep from dust getting in.
Is it normal for a lot of dust to get in? Is it such a big deal?

Any help and feedback will be very greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you could also make your own filter. all you have to do is buy a fine mesh and tape it to the computer inside or on top of the case. but there will always be dust getting in your computer no matter what you do

you can buy a computer case with dust filters on it that would help minimize the amount of dust coming into the computer. you can also put your computer on a desk because being on the floor attracts more dust. also i dont recommend putting a vacuum in the computer.

Wow never thought about that. I could probably even just use something like a paint filter or a material like pantyhose?

i would not use the magnet since magnets can cause harm to pc components

ive tried the coffee filters but because they have a little more restriction the fans can get a little loud.besides with that hepa filter you can keep not only dust, but pollen, bacteria, and viruses from getting into your computer.ok,that last was bullshit.lol

try nylon mesh filters!

just bought one and planning a DIY project for it in a few days.
locally bought it at a Fishing Supply store. its called "fine net". its a white nylon mesh used for trapping "fingerlings" in the fishing industry.

my enermax ostrog came in with a PSU dust filter at the bottom and the material is one and the same. only difference is the color. fishing is white and case is black.

try looking these up...
