Every thing has been going good but I wanted to replace my thermal paste because I had a cheap $1 non brand compound so i upgraded to arctic silver everything was going completely good until I tryed to turn my computer on and i get no signal? My last thermal paste on it was very messy it looked like it was flowing over the sides I cleaned it up though and their was some on my motherboard input wher the pins go in? I have no idea how but it was their. So I left it running for 20 minutes to check if my CPU had any heat and it was completly cool? somebody please help me

Solution
you need to take off the cooler, clean off the paste, clean the board carefully of residue and re do it right. You dont want a lot of thermal grease...the point is the have the thinnest possible layer while still covering the whole surface of the chip. itsp purpose isnt to act as a great heat dissipator, in fact its not so great at that. its purpose is to fill the tiny micro scratches and cracks on the surface of the cpu chip and the cooler plate. filling in those tiny cracks you cant even see is the point. so the fact that its spilling over the sides is a clear indicator you used way way too much. look it up on youtube this time..
