First off, I have very little knowledge of computers other then basic upkeep.

The last week or so while playing Star Conflict, the only game I'm playing at the moment, FPS has randomly dropped into single digits, and my laptop slows to a crawl. Once I am actually able to get task manager open I can see that my CPU usage is 90%+. This has happened before but after some searching and reading that having some programs open could result in this, I found not using Windows Media Player to play music fixed the problem. Now it's happening again and it has only gotten worse, it now happens within 10 minutes of starting the game every time and drops to 10 or less FPS from a normal 40 or so and will sometimes go back up. My laptop has Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics and Nvidia GeForce 525M graphics. I have set the default processor to be used to the Nvidia processor and looking through game settings and other information I found that DirectX 11 is using the Intel processor regardless of Nvidia being the default. I cannot find anyway to change this and I'm wondering if this is even the problem? I've run Avast antivirus full and boot scans, and malwarebytes full scans and nothing has changed. Is my laptop slowly dying?

Turn off programs! while running the game anything on your lower right side corner of your display is programs running..

You can use msconfig to shut down programs and speed up your system..

Hope this helps.

I have done this, I've gone through my processes and stopped everything I knew I could and then ran the game, it still happens. I've even run it without Steam and it's overlay by using the .exe in the local files.

Hmmm wonder if your laptop is getting too hot or has some dirt inside it causing the game to slow down when the cpu or gpu throttles back.... Have you tried a bench mark program called heaven???? To see if it slows down or what fps your laptop is getting its free to download and you can test it.

I will start running that ASAP, it doesn't feel to me that it is getting hot enough as it has gotten hot before and started to lag and it feels nothing like that. I have even bought a cooling pad recently, even before this started. Also, I noticed a BIOS update for my laptop from version A06 to A13, it's around a year newer, would it be a good idea to update?

I'll try simply reinstalling the game but I doubt it will do anything.
