hello! - i am a complete moron so please bare with me:

i have a secondary sata HDD that doesn't currently appear to be working ...it did before but i was tinkering about with an old IDE HDD and i think i might have "encouraged the breaking" of the sata one:

anyhoo - the HDD is not found by the BIOS initially, then when i change the HD discovery setting (asus S.M.A.R.T thing (...asus mobo)) and restart, the HDD is displayed in the BIOS.

...the bios reads that it had a 0mb capacity when found (i think its 2TB)

also windows (7) will not start with the HDD present in the bios, but will start if the BIOS can't find it or if i have a different secondary sata connected inside in the same ports with the same cables.

i get the "insert system disk" error.

....so basically if in bios windows won't start - if not in bios, windows will start, not in device manager.

- so i either cant load windows to use it OR can't find it with windows anyway:

does that mean it is broken and beyond repair ?

thanks!

thanks!.

i couldn't see how to change the mode (?)

i have tried resetting BIOS to default and also swapping around boot priority of the HDD's, also plugging the sata cable into alternate ports on the mobo with no luck.

my sata with windows will work fine with my other storage sata, in any combination on the mobo, but not this one,

i don't get why it prevents windows from loading though !, i (...being stupid) would have guessed that the bios would discount the whole drive if "it is not working", especially as it's second in boot order too - i know my windows one works - so why does #2 on the boot order stop the working #1 from loading up windows ?

do you think it would be worth buying an enclosure for it or think it may be more suitable as a paper weight ?

thanks!
