My new motherboard didn't come with one, and I'm curious if I can use my old motherboard speaker in my current computer(about 5-6 years old) and put it on my new one so I don't have to go without one.

Thanks for any help!

Solution
The speaker attaches to pins that are on the board, probably near the power switch and LED (I want to say it's 2 pins but it's been a while since I've looked at it). If there is an issue then it should beep out a specific code to tell you what the issue is. In theory just about all boards also have an LED system that you can use but a loud and annoying speaker telling you that you messed something up is helpful

I just assumed that the speaker will do certain beeps in case of a situation my computer stops working. It will beep a certain amount of time to let you know what your problem is :D.

Hmm I'm scared to put in my front panel connectors, don't know if you put them in sideways or normal >_>...I'm also using my old cx500 corsair psu and lost my instructions. Think it will be hard putting it together without it? I'm about to look for my mobo in someone elses computer in pictures and find the correct position to put them in

ahh ok, my tower has power connectors with another connector below it (3 pins?) it's pretty small. Do I need to connect those things too? It's been a while since building one, and I currently have the parts sitting on my counter top.

the power connector then it has a small 3 pin connector? two of them are together on one cable with 1 3 pin connector and then there's another single power connector with one 3 pin connector. can anyone explain to me if I have to use those 3 pin connectors? also I'm trying to find out how to connect some of my front panel ports and stuff onto my motherboard. Idk if I'm putting them in is sideways or the right way ._.

I don't have the board and the picture doesnt zoom as much as I want, but i'm going you to direct you with it: http://photos.expertreviews.co.uk/images/front_picture_library_Expert_Reviews/dir_369/er_photo_184963_52.jpg

Look at the bottom left of that picture. That is where you are going to plug all the pins for the speaker, power, power led, etc.

It's a bit easier to see in the pictuer for my board: http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Z87-TUF.jpg which is on the bottom right of the picture

Since your board is an ASUS board, check if you have something like this: http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2104

It makes things a lot easier since you can just put all those single pins on that 1 module and then plug it into your board all at once.

This is all also probably in your manual as well

The new motherboard will of course come with a box and manual. The pin configuration and pictures are inside the manual. The connectors from your casing will be separated by color wires, some 2-pins, some 3-pins, some multi-pins like USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 front panel connectors. The connector housing will have labels like "HD Audio" to let you know what they are. Then follow the pin configuration on the motherboard manual.

I know people think it is cool to throw away the user manuals. But when you need it, you should refer to it. It's faster than waiting for forum answers who don't have your manual. You have it on your hands, refer to it.
