what do i do when i install the ram?

hey guys! i know how to install ram in my computer but i never upgraded my ram.. so i am planning to get 2 new sticks of 4 gb each and i want to know what happens when i install the ram.when i install it i will open the computer and it will be ready or i will need to do something more?

Without any details of your system, that's impossible to say. BUT... most modern systems auto-configure the ram for you. Sometimes you'll need to go into the bios in order to get the best performance out of it, but I wouldn't dwell on that (even then it's usually just a matter of selecting one of the preconfigured ram timings, usually the first.)

Just make sure you're using a 64 bit os if you want to use more than 4 gigs.

yep my os is 64x and my motherboard is a gigabyte h61m-s2pv

 
dj run free memory tool from crucial.
http://www.crucial.com/
it read the ram and system board info. it help you match up the new dimms to the old one in speed and voltage.
if you can your better off buying the same ram that in the pc now if it still being sold.
