Sound card needed for virtual surround sound?

I'm thinking of building a computer and I'd like to use surround sound on a Logitech G35. Would this be possible with just the motherboard or do I need a sound card.

The motherboard I thought of is a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 and the Logitech G35 is connected via USB.

If it is connected by USB it means the headset you are using has it's own built in sound card so no you won't need to buy one
